About Civil Division
The Erie County Sheriff's Office Civil Division is responsible for the physical service of a wide variety of Court Orders, Writs, Executions, Summons, Tax Liens, Subpoenas and Protection from Abuse Orders, and other actions.At the present time, the Erie County Sheriff's Office Civil Division consists of 1 Captain, 3 Lieutenants and 16 Deputies. Lt. Jeff Guild is in charge of Courthouse Security and the Court of Common Pleas. Lt. Roger Gunesch controls day-to-day operations of all civil process. Approximately 6,017 civil complaints, together with 819 levies and 939 Protection from Abuse Orders, were served in 2010.
After service of a Writ or Protection from Abuse Order, the deputy fills out an affidavit of service, which notifies the plaintiff in writing, that service has been made, as well as the time and date of service and the name of the person served.
