DEPUTY SHERIFF: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• High school diploma or GED
• Citizen of the United States
• Criminal record search must be free of convictions of disqualifying criminal offneses
• Must possess a valid PA driver's license
• Must pass the Cooper Institute agility test prior to application. The test is advertised in the Erie Times News and posted in the Erie County Courthouse
• Written exam: all applicants who have successfully passed the agility test will be given the Watson-Glaser critical thinking appraisal test
• Applicants who received a passing score on both tests will then be placed on a hiring list. Vancancies will be filled based on interviews of qualified applicants.
• Selected applicants must pass a physical exam
• Applicants must pass an extensive background check
• Selected applicants must pass a psychological exam
• Applicants required to attend and graduate from the Pennsylvania deputy training academy

Deputy Sheriff Job Description (Entry Level)

CLERICAL STAFF: As positions open in the Sheriff's Office, The Erie County Personnel Department will post all job qualifications. Applications will not be accepted without a job posting.

All applicants for positions with the Sheriff's Department must submit a County Employment Application and a Bid Form stating their qualifications to the Personnel Department at the Erie County Court House, Room 112, Erie, PA 16501. Applications may be made Monday - Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. (Forms available for download on the County's Web site)
