TRIAD
FormsDue to growing concerns brought forward by our Senior Community, Sheriff Bob Merski established the Erie County TRIAD Program in 2000. TRIAD is a program which brings the Sheriff, the Police Chiefs, and our senior citizens together to work toward resolving the many problems our communities' seniors face. A Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) Committee has been established which will decide the priority of future programs.
Community sponsors made our very first project, Emergency Refrigerator Cards, a huge success. These cost free cards are filled out and placed on the refrigerator to assist law enforcement or emergency personnel in the event of an emergency inside the home.
You may obtain an Emergency Refrigerator Card or more Information on TRIAD by dialing (814) 451-7012 and speaking with Sergeant Brenda Nelson, TRIAD Coordinator.
Current TRIAD programs include:
Emergency Cell Phone Program
Emergency Flashing Light Program
Hearing Impairment Vehicle Visor Program
Over the past year, there have been several Search and Rescue missions to search for missing or lost residents who suffer from dementia. With the growing senior population, searches such as these will become more frequent.
The radio-transmitter bracelet is effective in all types of weather and the signal can be picked up within a 10-mile radius allowing the Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue team, to narrow the field of the search and locate the individual quickly.
The chance for a successful recovery drops 50% after the first 24 hours. By utilizing Project Lifesaver we can improve the success rate for our neighbors with Dementia, Alzheimer's or Autism.
The SALT Council is currently conducting a fund-drive to bring this life-saving equipment to Erie County. Project Lifesaver was dedicated September 15, 2007 at the Harborceek Fire Deparment, Route 20, Harborcreek, PA. Donations are being accepted at the Erie County Sheriff's Office, c/o B. Nelson, 140 West 6th Street, Erie, Pennsylvania 16501. For more information about this program please feel free to call Sgt. Nelson at 814-451-6293 or by leaving a voice-mail message for Kim Whelan at 814-459-1047 Extension 66.
